Arthur, Alex, and Ian,
Re: The Fire Safety Guide which I received from:
Broadway 69th Associations LLP c/o ABC Properties 152 West 57th Street, 12th floor New York, NY 10019 Tel: (212) 246-2801
Please be advised that the building information on the document is incorrect.
1. The year 143 West 69 Street was built is 1895, not 1920 as stated in your document.
2. The number of floors is 5, not 6 as stated in your document (with 1 Below Ground where the two stores are now).
3. Type of Construction is legal term: "nonfireproof" (as the building was built before 1968). Only buildings that are built after 1968 are generally classified either as "combustible" or "non-combustible."
I am guessing you sent one to every tenant in this building. Please send a corrected one with accurate building information.
REGARDING FIRE SAFETY
The Fire Department was at 2020 Broadway today. You probably have already heard about this through Max. The firemen found several issues on the roof which they are going to try to address with Max first. If, for some reason Max does not comply, they will then contact you and, from what they said will issue violations, etc.
For example: the exposed wires dangling in front of the fire escape and lying in a puddle of water were found to be dangerous. The Fire Department instructed Max as to the legal number of feet these wires should be ABOVE the ground.
Next they found propane tanks on the roof -- also illegal, also a fire hazard. The three (3) small grills are also a fire hazard. And, of course, the two large propane barbecues also pose a fire hazard. None of these should be on the roof of 2020 Broadway.
I urge you to instruct Max to follow the instructions of the Fire Department. Again, all residents are all concerned about their safety.
Thanking you in advance for your cooperation in this matter, I remain,
Yours truly,
Kirby Sommers President Cornfeld Tenants Association 143 West 69 Street, #5G New York, NY 10023
Tel: (212) 787-8726
P.S. Should you need to know the year 2020 Broadway was built, I will be happy to provide you with that information.
